MACON – The preseason recognition continued to roll in for the Mercer baseball team on Tuesday when rookie Garrett Lambert was lauded as the D1Baseball.com 2024 Southern Conference Preseason Freshman of the Year, while the Bears were labeled as a "Team To Watch" in the race for the SoCon title, as well as a spot in the NCAA postseason.
Joining Lambert in the list of conference preseason honors were VMI third baseman Justin Starke who was named Position Player of the Year and Samford pitcher Michael Ross who picked up Pitcher of the Year recognition.
Lambert joins Mercer after a stellar prep career at Parkview High School in Lilburn, Ga., where he logged 88 strikeouts and held opponents to just a .160 batting average on the way to pacing the Panthers to a 30-8 clip and a spot in the state semifinals. Lambert who boasts a fastball velocity in the 93 to 96 miles per hour range, also picked up region player of the year honors at season's end.
Reserved-seat season tickets for the 2024 season have already gone on sale, and the 31-game package can be purchased for as little as $100 for reserved seats and $125 for premium seats at MercerBears.com/Tickets. Single-game tickets for Mercer baseball home games start at $8 for bleacher seating.
