Mercer Suffers Eighth Inning Cowboy Comeback On Sunday

STILLWATER, Okla. -- The Mercer Bears (10-6, 0-0) took a 3-2 lead into the eighth inning, but could not hang on and fell 4-3 to the Oklahoma State Cowboys (10-6, 0-0) on Sunday.

Freshman Garrett Lambert started the ballgame and throwing 3.1 innings, giving up one run on two hits, with no walks and four strikeouts. Senior Jaxon O'Neal came out of the bullpen for Mercer and took the loss.

In the batter's box, the Bears were paced by senior Noah Best, who went 2-for-3 on the day with a double, a walk and an RBI. Senior Conner Todaro put together a standout day at the dish as well, going 1-for-1 as a pinch hitter with a double. Junior Parker Lester also helped out for Mercer, putting together one hit in four trips to the plate while adding an RBI.

HOW IT HAPPENED

The Bears scored all three runs in the sixth inning. Noah Best's RBI double was the key hit in Mercer's scoring streak. Oklahoma State scored one run the following inning and two in the eighth to secure the win.
