Mercer Rallies Late But Not Enough Against Georgia Tech

MACON -- The Mercer Bears (10-7, 0-0 SoCon) scored five runs in the final two innings but fell to the Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets (12-4, 0-0 ACC) 9-5 on Tuesday.
Senior Reid Fagerstrom (1-2) got the ball to start for Mercer and took the loss. Freshman Cody Soliday came in as a relief pitcher in the seventh inning and needed only three batters to bring the Bears back to bat.
Ty Dalley's two extra base hits were the highlight of a 2-for-3 day, and included two doubles, a walk and an RBI. Parker Lester made his contribution with two doubles and a walk, part of a 3-for-3 performance at the plate. Senior Conner Todaro also chipped in for the Bears, putting together two hits in two trips to the plate while adding a home run and two RBI.
HOW IT HAPPENED
Trailing 8-0, the Bears put their first runs on the board in the eighth inning. Mercer plated two runs when Todaro left the yard with Dalley aboard.
The Yellow Jackets expanded their lead to 9-2 before the Bears offense got back to work, cutting into that lead in the ninth. Mercer scored three times, including once on Dalley's RBI double, which brought the score to 9-5 in favor of the Yellow Jackets. The Bears were unable to get any closer, as neither team scored again in the ballgame.
