Mercer Fights Back From Late Deficit, Knocks Off Siena

MACON -- The Mercer Bears (12-7, 0-0 SoCon) fought back from down 5-4 in the seventh inning to take down the Siena Saints (0-15, 0-0 MAAC) 8-6 on Saturday. Sunday's first pitch has been moved to 12 p.m. due to weather.

Freshman Cody Soliday (1-0) picked up the victory out of the bullpen for Mercer. The right-hander went 1.2 innings, giving up one run on two hits, allowing two walks and striking out two. Freshman Cade Cosper also made an impact on the mound for the Bears, throwing one scoreless inning while allowing no hits, with no walks and two strikeouts.

Junior Jackson Cherry led the way offensively for the Bears, going 2-for-4 in the ballgame with a home run and three RBI. Senior Brandon Prince put together a standout performance as well, going 3-for-4 with a walk.

HOW IT HAPPENED

Mercer's offense started clicking quickly and put up four runs in the first inning, including a two-run single off the bat of Jackson Cherry.

The Bears lost the lead they built in the first, but got back on the board in the eighth. The Mercer offense exploded for four runs, highlighted by a one-run walk off the bat of senior Carter Geier, which brought the score to 8-6 in favor of the Bears. The score remained 8-6 for the rest of the game, as Mercer held on for the win.
