McCarthy Earns Invite To Philadelphia Eagles Mini Camp

MACON – Former Mercer defensive back Tavion McCarthy, who went viral after posting a 44-inch vertical amid a pro day on campus earlier this month, has been invited to participate in next month's Philadelphia Eagles Rookie Mini Camp, his agent announced Sunday afternoon.

McCarthy will be one of three former MU standouts to take part in National Football League camps in May, joining former all-American wide receivers Devron Harper and Ty James both inked free agent deals with the Minnesota Vikings on Saturday.

McCarthy, who was an all-conference standout in the secondary for Northern Michigan from 2019-22, played in all 13 games for the Bears in 2023 and amassed 54 tackles (33 solo), including a trio of tackles for loss and one sack. The Waukegan, Ill., native hauled in interceptions against both Wofford and The Citadel, and tallied a season-best nine tackles in Mercer's first-round playoff victory over Gardner-Webb. His lone quarterback drop of the season came in MU's setback at then-No. 22 Ole Miss in early September.

The Eagles will hold the first of two rookie mini camps, May 3-6, at the NovaCare Complex in Philadelphia, Pa.
