
Mercer Fights Back From 6th-Inning Deficit To Defeat East Tennessee State

GREENVILLE, S.C. -- The Mercer Bears (28-27) rallied back from a 2-0 deficit in the fifth inning to take down the East Tennessee State Buccaneers (34-19) 7-4 on Thursday.
Senior Wesley Franklin started on the mound for the Bears and gave up two runs and recorded two strikeouts in 4.0 innings. Sophomore Jess Ackerman made an impact on the mound for the Bears, throwing two shutout innings while allowing one hit with two walks and four strikeouts. Ackerman handed Southern Conference Player of the Year (media poll) Cameron Sisneros his 19th strikeout of the season to end the eighth inning, sending extra momentum in Mercer's direction.
HOW IT HAPPENED
In the sixth inning, Mercer got an RBI single from junior Jackson Cherry, scoring sophomore Ty Dalley from second base to cut the score to 2-1.
Taking the lead in the seventh inning, the Mercer offense exploded for four runs, highlighted by a three-run double off the bat of senior Conner Todaro which brought the score to 5-2.
East Tennessee State narrowed Mercer's lead to 5-3 before the Bears stretched the advantage to 7-3 in the eighth inning. The Bears added two to their tally on Todaro's two-run homer to left field. East Tennessee State put one run on the scoreboard before the game was over, but Mercer held on for the win.
