
Frye's Three-Run Homer Seals Win Over Western Carolina

GREENVILLE, S.C. -- The Mercer Bears (29-28) trailed by one in the seventh inning and rallied to take down the Western Carolina Catamounts (28-26) 10-8 on Friday.
Senior Jaxon O'Neal picked up the victory out of the bullpen for Mercer. The southpaw went 1.2 shutout innings while giving up one hit, allowing no walks and striking out one. Junior Colton Cosper got the save on the mound for the Bears, throwing 1.1 shutout innings while allowing one hit, with no walks and one strikeout. This is the second game that the usual starter has come out of the bullpen for a save, the first being in the upset of Florida State.
In the batter's box, the Bears were led by freshman Ely Brown, who went 3-for-5 on the day with a double, a home run and two RBI. Junior Bradley Frye put together a standout day at the plate as well, going 2-for-4 with a home run and three RBI. Sophomore Ty Dalley also contributed for Mercer, putting together two hits in five trips to the plate while adding a home run and two RBI.
HOW IT HAPPENED
Mercer got out in front 2-0 after the top of the first inning but gave up one run in the bottom of the frame. Ely Brown and Ty Dalley both homered in the second inning, extending Mercer's lead to 5-1. Dalley's 70 RBI on the season makes him one of only nine players in school history to record at least 70 RBI in a season.
The Catamounts scored five runs in the sixth inning to take an 8-6 lead. Bradley Frye responded in the top of the eighth with a three-run blast to give the Bears a 10-8 lead that they held til the end. Colton Cosper recorded one strikeout in 1.1 innings and faced five batters.
