MACON – National recognition began to flow in for the nationally-ranked Mercer football team on Monday afternoon when skipper Mike Jacobs was named one of 15 finalists for the 2025 Eddie Robinson Award which is presented annually to the national coach of the year in Division I FCS college football.
Â
All 13 FCS leagues are represented by an Eddie Robinson Award finalist. The winner, to be selected by a national voting panel, will be announced on Dec. 4 and honored at the Stats Perform FCS National Awards Show on Jan. 3 in Nashville, Tennessee.
Â
The fourth-winningest active coach in all of NCAA Division I football, Jacobs has amassed a 20-5 mark in Middle Georgia, including nine wins in 2025. He guided the Orange & Black to a perfect 8-0 record against Southern Conference foes this season as Mercer became the first team since 2008 and 2009 to rake in back-to-back outright SoCon championships.
Â
The Bears (9-2, 8-0 SoCon) will begin their road in the NCAA postseason on December 6 when they suit up to take on either 11th-seeded South Dakota (8-4) or Drake (8-3) in the second round of the NCAA FCS Playoffs. Kickoff has been scheduled for noon at Five Star Stadium.
Â
Tickets for the game will go on sale Tuesday.
