
Padio Crowned SoCon Player Of The Week

SPARTANBURG, S.C. – An unblemished performance on both the singles and doubles courts last week in Mercer's Southern Conference victories over both East Tennessee State and The Citadel paid dividends on Monday afternoon for junior Hod'Abalo Isak Padio when he was named SoCon Player of the Week, the league office announced.
Padio, a product of the west African country of Togo, went 4-0 on the hard court last week, including a pair of straight-sets wins in singles play, as well as a 2-0 tally alongside fellow junior Amen Prince Gandonou in doubles action. He toughed out a 7-5, 7-5 win over ETSU's Garcia Ripoll on Thursday to fuel MU's victory over the 9-time defending SoCon champion Bucs, and then dominated The Citadel's Ted Bagwell, 6-2 and 6-1, on Saturday.
Padio played his first two seasons at Iowa Central Community College before transferring to Mercer in time for the 2024-25 campaign, and has compiled a 19-10 mark in singles play, while also teaming up with Gandonou to tally a 20-9 mark in doubles competition. Padio has eight wins already this spring in the No. 2 singles position, and has also played a part in eight doubles victories as well.
Mercer (8-6, 3-0 SoCon) will close out a two-match road trip on Wednesday when it heads to Greenville, S.C., to battle league nemesis Furman (6-11, 2-1) at the Mickel Tennis Center. First serves are scheduled for 1 p.m.
