
Five Bears Earn Academic All-District Honors

MACON – Five Mercer baseball student-athletes – Jeb Johnson, Colton Cosper, Titan Kamaka, Terry Busse and Zack Thompson – have been named to the College Sports Communicators Academic All-District Baseball team, the organization announced today. Academic All-District teams recognize the nation's top student-athletes for their combined performances on the field and in the classroom.Â

A senior right-handed pitcher, Johnson earns Academic All-District laurels with a 3.96 cumulative GPA as a biology major with a minor in business administration. A 2025 Mercer graduate, Johnson emerged as a key member of the pitching staff this season, making 21 appearances with 10 starts. The Moultrie, Ga. native logged 61 – 1/3 innings, the third-most on the team, and earned four victories as the team's primary Saturday starter.Â

Cosper, a pitcher from Carrollton, Georgia, has been named Academic All-District three times in his career. A 2025 Mercer graduate as a marketing major with a minor in management, he earned a 3.73 cumulative GPA during his time at Mercer. One of the most accomplished pitchers in Bears' history, Cosper is a two-time First Team All-SoCon selection and has recorded 20 wins across 69 appearances and 43 starts in the Orange & Black. As a senior this season, Cosper turned in a 3.57 ERA, the lowest ERA by a Mercer pitcher since 2022. Cosper was also named a finalist for the CSC Academic All-American team and advances to the national ballot, voted on by CSC members. All-American teams will be announced on July 1.Â

A junior transfer from Florida State, Kamaka earns Academic All-District recognition after posting a 3.80 GPA as a finance major in his first year at Mercer. Kamaka was the Bears' everyday starter at second base this season, hitting .291 with eight home runs and 39 RBI. Kamaka was especially effective in conference play, leading the team with a .375 batting average. A native of Orlando, Fla., Kamaka was a SoCon All-Defensive Team selection as well. Â

Another transfer who joined the Bears ahead of the 2025 season, Busse earns Academic All-District honors after posting a perfect 4.0 GPA and graduating from Mercer with a degree in biology and a minor in economics. Busse, who joined the Bears from Georgia Tech, emerged as one of the country's top closers this season, posting eight saves and four victories in 26 relief appearances. A SoCon All-Tournament Team pick, Busse owned a 4.19 ERA and tallied 46 strikeouts while limiting opponents to a .168 batting average in 38 – 2/3 innings.Â

The fifth Bear to land on the Academic All-District Team, Thompson posted a perfect 4.0 GPA in health and physical education in his first year at Mercer. A junior from LaGrange, Ga., Thompson served as the Bears' primary catcher this season, hitting .247 with three home runs and 22 RBI across 54 games with 48 starts. A stout defender, Thompson led the SoCon with 18 runners caught stealing.Â
