
Cross Country Announces 2025 Schedule

MACON, Ga. - Mercer head men's and women's cross country coach Cameron Ruppe and the Bears have announced their 2025 slate, which includes a home meet to kick off the season.
The Bears will host the MGA/Julius Johnson Invitational on Aug. 30 at the Georgia Premier Cross Country Course in Macon, Ga. The Bears will then head to Huntsville, Ala. on Sept. 12 to race in the Southern Showcase at John Hunt Park, hosted by Jacksonville State.
On Oct. 3, the Bears will stay local and compete in the Georgia Tech Invitational in Atlanta at Bouckaert Farm. To wrap up the regular season, the Orange & Black return to the Arturo Barrios Invitational in College Station, Texas at the Watts Cross Country Course.
The Bears gear up for the Southern Conference Championships on Nov.1 at Tryon Equestrian Center in Mill Spring, N.C.
The NCAA South Regional Championships will be held in Huntsville, Ala. at John Hunt Park on Nov. 14, followed by the NCAA National Championships on Nov. 22 in Columbia, Mo. at Gans Creek Cross Country Course.
Both squads are looking to build off of last season's results which saw the men finish in sixth place at the SoCon Championships with the women finishing in fifth place. The men set a new 8k team average school record with a time of 24:52 and the women set a new 6k team average school record with a time of 22:01.
The men's team returns senior Yianni Pothalakis who set a new school record in the 8k when he ran a 24:14.6 at the Arturo Barrios Invitational, finishing first for the Bears. Pothalakis also earned SoCon Runner of the Week honors for finishing second overall and first for the Bears at the MGA/Julius Johnson Invitational.
Another key returner for the men's team is senior Jake Peters who was named to the All-SoCon Second Team for his time of 25:20.6 in the 8k at the SoCon Championships for a 13th place finish and first for the Bears.
The women's team returns sophomores Claire Bauer, Paula Sandoval and Reagan Cooke who were all named to the SoCon All-Freshman Team for their performances at the SoCon Championships. Cooke also earned SoCon Runner of the Week honors after her first place finish at the MGA/Julius Johnson Invitational in the 5k with a time of 17:49.11.
The Bears welcome seven newcomers to the men's and women's cross country teams this season. One new student-athlete joins the men's team while the women's team welcomes six newcomers. The Bears are expecting to continue to set new records and have a successful season with a strong group of student-athletes.
