MACON – Athletics department officials announced Friday afternoon that the nationally-ranked football team's Southern Conference clash with league rival Western Carolina will be played as scheduled, but the anticipated effects of Hurricane Isaias have still managed to alter weekend activities on campus.
Â
The aftereffects of the expected inclement weather will begin on Friday evening when the men's and women's soccer teams suit up to host a 5 p.m. doubleheader at Betts Stadium. Mercer's women's soccer team will take on SoCon rival Tennessee Tech in the front half of the twinbill, with MU's men's soccer squad expected to take the field at 7:15 p.m. against league nemesis Wofford in its annual Baba Agbaje Memorial Game. Admission to both contests is free.
Â
The volleyball team's weekend schedule has not been changed. The Bears will face Tennessee Tech in a 6 p.m. contest inside Hawkins Arena on Friday evening, and will rematch with the Golden Eagles on Saturday at 2 p.m. inside their home arena. Admission to both of those matchups is free as well.
Â
The 18th-ranked football team will battle Western Carolina in a 3 p.m. contest at Five Star Stadium, but pregame festivities have been altered in a significant way. Tickets are still available, and can be purchased by visiting MercerBears.com/Tickets. All pregame activities and vendors on Black Field have been canceled, with some events being relocated into the University Center.
Â
Two additional squads will continue fall schedule competition with intrasquad scrimmages. The men's lacrosse team will play its Black & Orange Intrasquad on Friday at 5 p.m. inside Five Star Stadium, while the beach volleyball team will compete in its annual Orange vs. Black Scrimmage on Saturday at 10 a.m. on Bear Beach. Fans can attend both events free of charge.
Â
Mothafunka is the lone act remaining on Saturday's Ford Concert Series schedule, but the Mercer-based student band will now perform on UC's intramural courts beginning at 1 p.m. Saturday's scheduled main act, Penelope Road, has been shifted to pregame ahead of MU's November 21 contest against East Tennessee State at Five Star Stadium.
Â
Mercer's traditional Bear Walk is still scheduled to take place at 12:45 p.m.
Â
Mercer University Campus Life and Student Involvement's annual Family Weekend schedule is still intact, with alternate rain locations now listed for a handful of events scheduled for Saturday. Check-in and on-site registration for Family Weekend events will be held on both Friday (4:30 p.m. – 7 p.m.) and Saturday (8 a.m. – 11:15 a.m.) in the Godsey Science Center Lobby.
Â
Online ticket sales for Family Weekend are now closed, but walk-up registrations ($25) will be accepted via cash or check on both days. Family Weekend attendees can enjoy a free breakfast at Saturday's welcome program and educational sessions in the Godsey Science Center from 8 a.m. – Noon. Registered families can also purchase a ticket to Saturday's barbecue lunch (Noon – 2 p.m.) for $12.
Â
Family Weekend will kick off with an Ice Cream Social with President Elkins, Faculty and Staff from 5 p.m. – 6:30 p.m. on Friday. A concert hosted by the Townsend School of Music and Mercer Singers will take place on Saturday at 11 a.m. inside the McCorkle Music Building.
