MACON – The Mercer Bears (3-1), led by Logan Shepherd's hot bat dominated in all aspects of the game to secure an 8-0 victory over in-state rivals Georgia State (3-2) on Wednesday night at OrthoGeorgia Park.

Decisive Plays:

Shepherd set the tone early, sending the first pitch he saw over the right field fence for a solo home run (3). Shepherd would double the lead in the bottom of the second with an RBI groundout before Chris Katz extended Mercer's advantage to three with an RBI single. A pair of RBI doubles by Titan Kamaka and Devyn McEachron in the home half of the third pushed the lead to five. Braydon Kersey plated another run with an RBI groundout of his own before Shepherd mashed a two-run homer (4) in the bottom of the sixth to make it 8-0.

Noteworthy:

10 pitchers took the mound for Mercer and combined for no runs allowed while only allowing three hits. Jeb Johnson struck out the side in his sole inning while Reid Fagerstrom picked up a pair of punch outs the following frame. Collin Ewaldsen struck out two in the eighth. Eight of the 10 Bears' pitchers recorded at least one strike out tonight.
The Bears kept the Panthers out of the run column to secure their first shutout of the season. Mercer only had three shutouts all season last year.
Logan Shepherd mashed two home runs tonight, becoming the first Bear to do so since Logan Shepherd just four days ago. The junior transfer has four home runs in as many games since coming to Macon.

Next Game:

The Bears continue their homestand with a weekend series against Columbia (0-0). This is the first time the two programs have met.
