MACON –Braydon Kersey was named the Southern Conference's Player of the Week after playing a pivotal role in Mercer's 4-0 week on the diamond, the conference announced this afternoon.
The sophomore from Alpharetta, Georgia, blasted his first collegiate home run, a go-ahead grand slam, in the bottom of the eighth inning to complete Mercer's 8-1 comeback win over Columbia last Friday night. Kersey followed that up with a 3-for-5 day where he mashed a two-run home run and laced a two-run double in the Bears' 20-6 win over the Lions on Saturday. Kersey showed off his two-way skill-set by finishing 2-for-3 from the plate with a walk and a stolen base before taking the mound in the ninth and notching Mercer's first save of the season to complete a series sweep over Columbia.
Kersey finished the week with a .400 batting average, .500 OPS, nine RBI, two home runs, a double, three walks, a stolen base, an inning pitched, a strikeout and a save.
Kersey and the Bears take the diamond again on Tuesday, February 24 as Mercer takes on Florida A&M at OrthoGeorgia Park. First pitch is scheduled for 6:00 p.m. You can purchase tickets here.
