MACON – The nationally-ranked Mercer football team added a heap of newcomers to its 2026 signing class on Wednesday afternoon with the announcement of 31 transfers and four incoming freshmen as part of National Signing Day.
Â
Wednesday's crop joined the 10 student-athletes that signed with the Orange & Black on December 3 on the first day of the 2025-26 early signing period. A 45-person signing class in totality, the Bears found scholar-athletes at nine different positions, as well as an athlete (multiple positions). The group includes 10 newcomers in the secondary, as well as nine offensive linemen.
"I am super, super pumped about our signing class and, hopefully, these guys can come in and take us to the next level," said head coach Joel Taylor. "We addressed a lot of needs, especially with us losing so many guys from last year's roster. Our staff did a tremendous job in not only identifying and acquiring guys. This is a group of difference makers who give us a real belief in what we can achieve together.
Â
"We have some playmakers at wide receiver, and I am really excited to see what our quarterback group is going to be able to accomplish. Defensively, we were able to address needs at both linebacker and in the secondary. I think I am most excited about our offensive line. We did a great job at getting quality guys there, especially in today's climate. I am ready to see those guys come together and work."
Â
The signing class hails from a dozen different states, including Connecticut, Florida, Georgia, Illinois, Maryland, Mississippi, New Jersey, New York, North Carolina, South Carolina, Washington and Wisconsin. More than half (24-of-45) are Peach State natives.
Â
The Bears will lift the lid on their 15-session spring practice schedule on February 26. Mercer's annual spring game is scheduled for April 4 at Five Star Stadium.
