Hugas Named Southern Conference Pitcher Of The Week

MACON – Miguel Hugas dominated the Wofford Terriers this past Saturday to become the second Bear in as many weeks to receive Southern Conference Pitcher of the Week recognition, the league announced this afternoon.
Hugas tossed a gem against the Terriers on Saturday, April 25, and earned his second quality start of the season. The junior right-handed pitcher hurled 7.0 innings and limited Wofford to just one run (none earned) and three hits. Hugas struck out five batters and only allowed three base runners after the second inning.
The Caracas, Venezuela, native transferred to Mercer from Chipola Community College before the start of the season and has made the transition to the Division I level look effortless. Hugas is tied for 16th in the nation with seven wins on the year and leads the Bears with 56.0 innings pitched.Â
The Mercer baseball team concludes an eight-game homestand on Wednesday, April 29 against in-state rival Georgia Southern (12-31, 5-16 Sun Belt) at OrthoGeorgia Park. The Bears hit the road again this weekend for a must-watch series against conference foe Samford (23-19, 8-4 SoCon). Tickets for Wednesday's contest are available at mercerbears.com/tickets.
