Katz Mashes His Way To SoCon Player Of The Week

MACON – Chris Katz had a special week from the plate and became the third Mercer baseball player to receive Southern Conference Player of the Week honors, the league announced on Monday afternoon.

The senior outfielder posted a .500 batting average and a 1.775 OPS in four starts to help the Bears reach their longest winning streak since 1992 of 10 games. Katz began the fiery stretch with a 2-for-4, six-RBI performance with a game-tying grand slam against Georgia Southern last Wednesday.

Katz carried his success into the weekend and went 2-for-4 with two runs scored and a double in the series opener against Samford. This past Saturday, Katz went 3-for-4 with a home run, a double and four runs scored to secure a series win over Mercer's conference rival.

Katz and the Bears are back in action this Wednesday for the conclusion of a home-and-home series against Georgia Southern in Statesboro. This weekend, Mercer welcomes VMI for its final home games of the regular season.
