MACON – Head coach Jason Payne announced that the Mercer men's golf team will travel to Maricopa, Arizona, to compete in the 2026 National Golf Invitational. The three-day tournament will take place from May 22 through the 24 and the individual winner will earn a spot in the Butterfield Bermuda Championship this upcoming October.
"We are honored to have the opportunity to compete in postseason golf," said Payne. "I am excited for our team to be able to display Mercer on a national stage. We have spent all year preparing each of our guys to play at the best of their abilities and are fully confident that they are ready for whatever challenges this course might throw at us."
This year's NGI tournament takes place at the Ak-Chin Southern Dunes Golf Club in Maricopa, Arizona. This prestigious course has been the host of many PGA Tour, Korn Ferry and collegiate tournaments.
Last year's field consisted of Texas State, George Mason, Rhode Island, Richmond, Oregon State, Utah Valley, Utah State, Ohio State, Stetson and West Virginia. The Buckeyes took home the team title while Enrique Karg won the individual trophy and an exemption to the 96th Southeastern Amateur.
Mercer is coming off its highest team finish in the Southern Conference Championship history with a third-place finish. Henry Robards was the runner-up in the three-day event after carding consecutive rounds of 66 over the final 36 holes.
