
Men's and Women's Cross Country Take Team Titles at MGA/Julius Johnson Invitational

MACON, Ga. – The Mercer men's cross country team had eight finishes in the top 10 and the women's team had the top seven finishers as Mercer swept the team titles at the MGA/Julius Johnson Invitational.
Fifth year Ania San Roman Lopez won the women's 5K in her Mercer debut with a time of 18:49.32 with Paula Sandoval finishing right behind her in second with a time of 18:55.63. Courtney Calhoun, Alayna Carter, Abbie Kallbreier, Kamryn Wingfield, and Mackenzie Crowe each took a spot in the top seven to help secure Mercer's victory.
Sophomore William Poelker ran a personal best 19:32.93 in the men's 6K to take home a second place finish. Colby Bornstein finished behind him in third with a 19:42.42 personal best. Jake Peters and Andrew Jacknewitz took fourth and fifth place while Hagan Russell also set a new personal best at 20:02.23, finishing in sixth place. Christopher Cerwinka, Chris Connolly, and Angus Brown rounded out Mercer's top 10 finishers.
The Bears will travel to Huntsville, Ala. on September 18 for their next meet, the Southern Showcase. The race will be hosted by the Jackson State at John Hunt Park.
