| Mercer University archives indicate that the position of "Director of Athletics" was created by the Board of Trustees in June 1913, and C.C. Stroud was appointed to the position. Stroud had been listed as the Physical Director for the 1910-1911, 1911-1912, and 1912-1913 academic years, so both variations of the title have been included in this listing. According to a January 4, 1914 Macon Telegraph article, Dr. Stroud was unable to return for the fall semester, and John Henry Scully came to Mercer in January 1914. The September 28, 1913, Board of Trustees minutes mention securing L.W. Hardage (who was the football coach at the time) as physical director. Fred Robins, however, is listed as the Director of Athletics in the 1914-1915 catalog. |
