Tyler Gibson is in his first year as the volunteer Director of Baseball Operations for the Mercer baseball program. In his role, Gibson is responsible for coordinating the Bears’ travel plans, equipment management and clubhouse operations.
A highly regarded outfielder in his playing days, Gibson was the 2011 Georgia High School Player of the Year and a two-time Georgia All-State Player at Stratford Academy in Macon, Ga. Originally committed to play at Georgia Tech, he was drafted by the Detroit Tigers in the 15th round of the 2011 MLB Draft. He played professionally in the Tigers' organization from 2011 to 2015.
Following his career with the Tigers, Gibson returned to Georgia Tech as an undergraduate assistant coach, serving in that position for two years while also graduating with a degree in business administration in December 2017.
Gibson has also served as the co-owner of multiple Your Pie Pizza restaurant franchises in the Middle Georgia area. As a native of Macon, Gibson is excited to be back in the area to lend his baseball and operations knowledge to the Mercer Bears baseball program.
