A beacon of student-athlete success who is deep-rooted as a two-time graduate of Mercer, Delaney Ryan begins her 10th season with the Bears in 2025-26Â as the Director of Student-Athlete Support Services. She was promoted to Assistant Athletics Director for Support Services in July 2024, while also charged with the role as the department's Senior Woman Administrator.

Ryan is charged with the oversight of six academic advisors and support specialists that provide academic guidance to MU’s more-than 400 student-athletes. She also heads up the process of developing academic success plans to ensure that all academic goals and requirements are being met.

In addition to providing academic guidance, Ryan is responsible for coordinating all areas of academic support, which includes monitoring, evaluating, and determining student-athlete’s academic performance for eligibility purposes. Mercer has won the Barrett-Bonner Award for eight consecutive years since joining the Southern Conference. That honor is presented to the SoCon institution that places the highest percentage of its student-athletes on the league’s academic honor roll.

Ryan joined the Mercer Athletics family in 2016 as an administrative assistant and served a variety of key roles for MU over the next four years while pursuing her undergraduate degree. Her duties expanded as a graduate assistant in the department, including stints as a student-athlete academic support specialist, as well as an administrative support role in the daily operations of the department. She also served as an academic advisor for the Bears prior to being promoted into her current position.

A native of St. Petersburg, Fla., Ryan earned her bachelor’s degree in elementary education and special education from Mercer n 2020, and completed her graduate work in higher education leadership at MU in 2022.
