A 24-year coaching veteran, including a trio of stints as head coach, Harold Muñoz makes the return trip to Macon for the 2026-27 season after spending the last nine years as an assistant coach at NCAA Division II powerhouse Angelo State. He previously served as a volunteer assistant coach for the Bears during the 2014 and 2015 campaigns.

Muñoz helped guide Angelo State to an incredulous run of success over the last nine seasons in west Texas. The Rams churned out a 108-40-24 (.698) clip across that span, including 70 Lone Star Conference victories, while also raking in a trio of LSC regular season championships, four LSC Tournament crowns and five NCAA Tournament appearances. The Rams tallied seven double-digit win campaigns across that stretch as well.

Muñoz began his coaching career in 2002 as an assistant coach for both the men’s and women’s programs at Midland (Neb.) for two seasons before taking on a role as a graduate assistant coach for the men’s soccer team at Eastern New Mexico. He returned to Midland in 2006, serving as the associate head coach for the women’s program for one season before being elevated to head coach of the Warriors prior to a 13-win campaign in 2007 that culminated with an appearance in the championship game of the NAIA Region III Tournament.

The energetic mentor took over the reins of the men’s soccer program at Eastern New Mexico prior to the 2008 campaign and led the Greyhounds to 53 victories over the next six seasons, including double-digit win campaigns in both 2009 and 2012. Eastern New Mexico also churned our a 9-4-5 clip in 2011 on the way to claiming the LSC regular season championship, as well as a brief appearance in the national rankings.

Muñoz accepted a role as volunteer assistant coach in Macon prior to the 2014 season – MU’s first as a member of the Southern Conference – and was on the sidelines as the Bears posted a 14-6-2 record, including an unblemished run through the SoCon Tournament that secured the first NCAA Tournament berth in program history. Mercer tallied a 9-win campaign and an appearance in the SoCon Tournament championship game in 2015 before Muñoz departed to become the head coach of the women’s program at Georgia Southwestern.

A native of Toronto, Ontario, Canada, Muñoz was a standout at William Woods (Mo.) from 1998-2001 and earned first team All-American Midwest Conference laurels as a senior after pacing the Owls to a 13-win season under the direction of head coach Dan Palmer. He also has professional playing stints for both the North York Astros of the Canadian Professional Soccer League and the Sioux Falls Spitfire of the Premier Developmental League.

Muñoz earned his bachelor’s degree in physical education from William Woods in 2002, and completed his graduate degree in physical education at Eastern New Mexico in 2006. He holds several certifications from the National Soccer Coaches Association of America, including a Level I and II goalkeeping diploma and a premier diploma.

He has a son, Harrison.
