A 10-year coaching veteran with previous stops at three other collegiate institutions, Joseph Eaglin begins his second stint at Mercer in 2026-27, as well as his second year alongside head coach Joel Taylor, as the nickelbacks coach for the Bears. Eaglin made the return trip to Macon after having served as part of former Mercer head coach Drew Cronic’s staff during the CoVID-affected 2020-21 season.
Eaglin spent the previous three seasons (2023-25) a pivotal member of the coaching staff at Georgia Military College where he helped lead the Bulldogs to a cumulative 27-7 record, a pair of Georgia Collegiate Athletic Association championships and a run to the semifinal round of the 2024 National Junior College Association of America (NJCAA) Football Championship. GMC yielded just 292.5 yards game (175.3 passing yards/game) across his 34-game stay in Milledgeville, Ga., while also registering 36 interceptions, including a 2014 campaign that saw the Bulldogs finish 5th, nationally, with 14 pickoffs.
As Outgoing Recruiting Coordinator for both the 2024 and 2025 seasons, Eaglin also played a pivotal part in the progression of GMC's student-athletes as well. In just two seasons in that role, more than 50 Bulldogs inked scholarship offers with NCAA Division I institutions, including 13 from his position group.
Prior his time at GMC, Eaglin spent two seasons (2021-22) on the sidelines at Jacksonville State as the safeties and cornerbacks graduate assistant coach for the Gamecocks. JSU, who claimed the Atlantic Sun Conference championship in 2022, was nearly lights out in the secondary with Eaglin prowling the sidelines, surrendering just 225.3 yards through the air while also picking off 16 passes across a 22-game span.
Eaglin made his initial coaching marks as student manager and assistant linebackers coach at Southeastern Louisiana for three seasons (2017-19) where he also served as the equipment manager for his alma mater. He made his first move to Macon prior to the 2020 season where he was a defensive analyst for the Bears over the course of both the fall and spring portions of the CoVID-altered campaign.
A native of Baton Rouge, La., Eaglin earned his bachelor’s degree in sports management from Southeastern Louisiana in 2020 and completed his graduate work in sports management at Jacksonville State in 2023.
