
Volleyball Knocks Off Hatters, 3-1

MACON, Ga. – Junior Jennifer Katona was unstoppable, recording a .762 hitting percentage as the Mercer volleyball team cruised to a 3-1 (25-13, 20-25, 26-24, 25-13) victory over Stetson Saturday afternoon at the University Center.
Mercer's triumph marked the team's first conference win and moved the Bears to 6-14 (1-5 A-Sun) while Stetson fell to 4-12 (0-6 A-Sun).
"I'm elated at the performance our middles put up," Mercer head coach Noelle Rooke said. "They were unstoppable today. We also got solid play defensively at the net as well as in the back row this afternoon."
Katona was a perfect six for six on attacking attempts in the first set and converted three of her four attempts in the second set. The Santa Monica, Calif. native led all players with 16 kills while also notching five block assists, three digs and a pair of assists.
Katona's hitting percentage was a season-high for Mercer and marked the best attacking efficiency in a match since Krista Hurley hit .857 against Florida A&M on October 23, 2010.
Junior Madeline Dolny narrowly missed her second-straight double-double, collecting 39 assists and nine digs in the win. Dolny also tied a personal season-high with four kills on Friday.
Junior Charlayna Braxton achieved double-digit kills for the first time in her career, pounding out 11 kill with only three errors on 24 swings.
Senior Charlotte Harris tied a season-high with 25 digs while also handing out three assists in the winning effort. Sophomore Emily Rochefort also set a season-best dig mark with 16.
Senior Anna Coursey recorded a match-high seven block assists, helping Mercer limit Stetson to a .086 hitting percentage.
Mercer held advantages in nearly every key statistic, leading in kills (51-41), assists (46-36), digs (85-67) and blocks (12-9).
Mercer returns to action with a non-conference road match at Florida A&M on Wednesday. Match time is scheduled for 6 p.m.
