
Volleyball Sweeps Savannah State, 3-0

MACON, Ga. – Sophomore middle blocker Zoe Becton collected a match-high seven kills to lead Mercer to a 3-0 (25-6, 25-12, 25-19) victory over Savannah State in Wednesday night's non-conference volleyball match at the University Center.
Mercer captured its second-straight win and moved to 12-18 while Savannah State remained winless at 0-25.
Becton's seven kills were a career-high and came on 15 attempts with only three errors. The Albuquerque, N.M. native also tallied three block assists and a service ace in the win.
Freshman Caroline Carlton hammered out four kills in two sets of action, finishing with a .429 hitting percentage. She also was credited with 11 digs in the winning effort.
Mercer never trailed in the first set after senior Amiee Frutchey opened the scoring with a kill.
In the second set, Savannah State was on top 5-4 before Mercer went on a 13-2 run. The Bears would ultimately win that frame 25-12.
In the third set, Mercer held a slim 16-14 advantage before finishing the set on a 9-5 run.
Junior setter Monica Sanchez passed out 25 assists and notched three digs and a block assist in the win. Senior Charlotte Harris booked 21 digs, three service aces and an assist on Wednesday.
Mercer wraps up its regular season schedule on Saturday, traveling to Kennesaw State. First serve is scheduled for 5 p.m.
