
Volleyball Falls to Kennesaw State 3-1 in Season Finale

KENNESAW, Ga. – Senior Amiee Frutchey had her seventh double-double of the season with 13 kills and 22 digs as the Mercer volleyball team fell to Kennesaw State 3-1 (25-15, 20-25, 25-23, 25-22) on Saturday afternoon at the KSU Convocation Center.
Mercer was in contention for the Atlantic Sun tournament up until the final weekend of the season, but was mathematically eliminated from a spot in the event after Jacksonville beat Stetson on Friday evening. The Bears loss on Saturday gave the team a final record of 12-18 (4-9 A-Sun). Kennesaw State moved to 13-15 (8-5 A-Sun) and is slotted as the fourth seed in the upcoming A-Sun tournament.
"I'm proud of how we battled back after losing the first set," head coach Noelle Rooke said. "Despite the loss, I felt it was a good way for our three seniors to go out as they all had strong performances."
Frutchey's double-double was her third in the last four matches and gave her the team lead in double-doubles this season. Her 13 kills on Saturday came on 48 attempts with six errors.
Junior Monica Sanchez and Jamie Duffy both also booked a double-doubles in the loss. Sanchez passed out 33 assists and notched 10 digs while Duffy had 10 kills and 13 digs.
Senior Charlotte Harris collected 17 digs against the Owls while also recording a pair of assists and a service ace.
In the first set, Mercer tailed 11-10 before Kennesaw State scored six-straight times. All told, the Owls finished the set on a 14-5 run.
In the second set, Mercer held a slim 21-20 advantage before scoring four-straight times to even the match at a set apiece.
In the third set, Kennesaw State jumped out to a 3-0 lead and never surrendered its advantage. The fourth set featured five tie scores and two lead changes, but the Owls ultimately prevailed, 25-22.
Senior Anna Coursey led all players with six total blocks. She also collected five kills and a dig in the loss.
