MACON, Ga. - Mercer sophomore Briana Williams led the women's basketball team with 10 points in a 128-42 loss to No. 3 Notre Dame at the University Center on Friday evening.
Notre Dame claimed its 10th-straight victory and moved to 13-1 while Mercer fell to 3-10.
"Obviously it could have been better," Mercer head coach Susie Gardner said. "Minus the score, we did keep fighting and we did hit some shots. We had some players showed that they could and would continue to compete."
Williams' 10 points came in conjunction with three assists in 23 minutes of work. Junior Ry'van Buchanan booked nine points, two rebounds, an assist and a steal in the loss.
Notre Dame shot a sizzling 80% from the field (24-of-30) in the opening 20 minutes to build an insurmountable 72-30 lead at intermission. The first half field goal percentage and point totals were each program records for the Fighting Irish.
In the second half, the visitors held Mercer to just 3-of-28 (10.7%) shooting from the floor.
The Fighting Irish placed seven players in double figures on their way to a program record 128 points. Freshman Markisha Wright led all players with 24 points on 10-of-12 shooting.
Notre Dame shot 52 free throws in the victory, cashing in on 43 of those attempts. Conversely, Mercer was just 9-of-19 from the charity stripe.
Mercer returns to action hosting Florida Gulf Coast on January 2. Game time is scheduled for 7 p.m.
