Men's Golf Places 11th at Bandon Dunes Championship

BANDON DUNES, Ore. – Freshman Mookie DeMoss took home Mercer's top individual finish at the Bandon Dunes Championship, shooting 74 in Saturday's final round to finish in a tie for 16th place individually. Mercer's team total of 317 on Saturday gave the Bears a three-round total of 932 and an 11th place finish at the event.
No. 27 Washington earned the event's team title with a 54-hole score of 871. The Huskies outpaced the next closest squad, No. 37 Oregon, by eight strokes. Mercer's 932 sandwiched the team between Loyola Marymount (930) and Northern Colorado (935).
DeMoss, who competed at the tournament as an individual, collected three birdies on Saturday en route to his two-over 74. Saturday's total combined with an opening round 69 and a second round 80 to give the Duluth, Ga. native a tournament score of 223 (+7).
DeMoss' 223 equaled the efforts of seven other golfers and was better than 75 competitors at the event. DeMoss joined Oregon's Isaiah Telles and Oregon State's Jeff Petroff as the top finishers among the 11 players competing as individuals.
Sophomore Matt Kocolowski led Mercer's team participants with a tie for 35th place individually. Kocolowski booked a 77 on Saturday and finished with a three-round total of 229.
Josh Cone posted a 78 in the final round and completed the event with a score of 232. Cone's tournament score gave the junior a tie for 48th place individually.
Sophomore Thomas Holmes capped his tournament with an 81 on Saturday and wrapped up the event with a score of 233. Holmes' performance slotted him tied for 55th place overall.
Freshman Hans Reimers and sophomore John Gregory Joseph each tied for 78th place individually with scores of 245. Reimers employed 81 strokes on Saturday while Joseph signed for an 88.
Mercer now endures a 15-day hiatus before returning to competitive play at the Linger Longer Invitational. The Linger Longer will be contested at the Great Waters Golf Club in Greensboro, Ga. on March 27-29.
