CRYSTAL RIVER, Fla. – For the second-straight day, freshman Mary Alice Murphy recorded Mercer's low round at the University of Cincinnati Spring Invitational. Murphy's 74 on Saturday helped the team to a cumulative score of 304 and has the Bears in eighth place.
Morehead State leads the tournament with a two-day total of 591. North Texas (593) is in second place while Florida Southern (597), Stetson (599) and Campbell (602) round out the top-five teams. Mercer's two-day total of 611 has the Bears just one stroke off the pace of seventh-place Elon.
"One of the main things we wanted to accomplish here was to see how we line up with other teams in our conference," Mercer head coach Gary Guyer said. "The A-Sun Championship is just two weeks away. I think we're holding our own and people are taking notice."
Murphy's 74 included ten-straight pars and brought her 36-hole total to 147. Entering Sunday's final round, Murphy holds sole possession of eighth place in the individual standings.
"Mary Alice is really playing solid golf right now," Guyer said.
On Saturday, sophomore Kimmy Graff posted a 75, a one stroke improvement on her opening round score. Graff's tournament score of 151 places her tied for 19th place overall.
Aurelie Wiriath bounced back from a shaky opening round with a 76 on Saturday, moving the sophomore into a tie for 82nd place overall. Wiriath's classmate, Kaitlin Marrin used 79 strokes on Saturday and is tied for 76th place.
Freshman Lacey Fears signed for an 85 in round two and is tied for 86th place overall.
The final round of competition is scheduled to start at 8:30 a.m. Sunday.
