CRYSTAL RIVER, Fla. – Sophomore Kimmy Graff fired a one-over 73 in Sunday's final round of the University of Cincinnati Spring Invitational at the Plantation Golf Resort. As a team, Mercer posted a cumulative total of 307 on Sunday and finished eighth among the 23-team field.
Mercer's 307 on Sunday equaled the team's effort in the first round and gave the Bears a three-round total of 918. North Texas (882) overtook Morehead State (895) on the final day of the event to capture the team title. Florida Southern (897), Campbell (907) and Stetson (908) rounded out the top-five squads.
Mercer's tournament score of 918 slotted the Bears two strokes behind Houston Baptist and eight strokes ahead of Florida Atlantic.
Graff's final round 73 gave her Mercer's top individual finish, a tie for 12th place. Sunday's 73 combined with a first round 76 and a second round 75 and helped her outpace 109 other competitors.
"We finished this event pretty strong," Mercer head coach Gary Guyer said. "Kimmy played really well. Shooting 76-75-73 makes this by far her best tournament and she is really turning into a solid golfer."
Freshman Mary Alice Murphy needed 80 strokes to complete 18 holes on Sunday, moving her tournament total to 227 and tying her with Stetson's Ryan Ashburn for 18th place overall.
Freshman Lacey Fears shot 76 in the final round and placed in a tie for 66th place individually. Fears' 76 combined with a opening round 77 and a second round 85.
Sophomore Aurelie Wiriath collected three birdies on her way to a 78 on Sunday. Wiriath fininshed the event with a score of 239 and tied for 71st place overall. Sophomore Kaitlin Marrin wrapped up her performance with an 80 and tied for 76th place overall.
"We didn't start out strong today, had some bogeys," Guyer said. "The wind picked up on back nine and I thought we did a good job of focusing and committing to every shot."
Mercer will complete its regular-season schedule with a dual match against Gardner Webb on Saturday, April 2. That event will be contested at the Patriot Club in Ninety Six, N.C.
