MACON, Ga. – Mercer junior Jennifer Katona blasted a season-high 16 kills and added three total blocks to help lead Mercer to a 3-1 (22-25, 25-19, 25-16, 25-22) victory over Florida A&M in Saturday afternoon's non-conference volleyball match at the University Center.
"I'm so proud of my girls to come away with another victory today," head coach Noelle Rooke said. "I thought it was a well rounded effort and we got solid play across the net."
Mercer's third-straight win moved the team to 4-8 while FAMU remained winless at 0-9.
Katona's 16-kill performance was highlighted by a fourth set where she recorded a perfect hitting percentage. The middle blocker smashed eight kills on eight swings with zero errors in the fourth frame.
"Katona really stepped up and produced offensively today as her hitting percentage improved every set," Rooke said.
Senior Anna Coursey reached double figures in the kill column for the third-straight match as she knocked down 10 kills against the Rattlers. Coursey's 10 kills came with only two errors, equating to a .333 hitting percentage.
"Anna has really come in to her own and has been a consistent threat for us offensively," Rooke said.
Juniors Monica Sanchez and Madeline Dolny combined to dish out 42 assists in the winning effort. Dolny's 22 helpers came in conjunction with four digs and a service ace while Sanchez collected five digs of her own.
Senior Amiee Frutchey piled up a match-high 19 digs and also booked six kills in the win.
"We are hoping we can ride this momentum into next week as we move towards the opening weekend of conference play."
