Men's Golf Sixth at Sea Best Invitational

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – The Mercer men's golf team had a strong performance in their first outing of the spring season, finishing Monday's opening day of the Sea Best Invitational in sixth place. As a team, the Bears finished Monday's two rounds with a score of 610, outpacing seven other teams.
No. 34 Florida leads the field at 587, while No. 36 Liberty is in second with a day one total of 598. No. 7 North Florida (606) holds onto third while Coastal Carolina (608) and Old Dominion (609) round out the top five.
Mercer's Monday showing has the team ahead of six other teams, including Atlantic Sun conference foes East Tennessee State, Florida Gulf Coast and Jacksonville.
Junior John Gregory Joseph and sophomore James Beale are each tied for 18th place individually after both using 151 strokes on Monday. Joseph shot 74-77 while Beale went 75-76.
Freshman Trey Rule came into the clubhouse Monday night in a tie for 26th after firing a 76 and a 77. Sophomore Hans Reimers found his way to a tie for 33rd place overall with a day one score of 155 (79-76). Senior Josh Cone needed 168 (83-85) strokes on Monday and holds sole possession of 64th place.
Mercer had a particularly steady performance on Monday as Joseph, Beale, Reimers and Rule all ranked among the top-seven participants in pars. Joseph and Beale each had 25 pars while Reimers and Rule collected 24 and 23 pars, respectively.
The final 18 holes of the Sea Best Invitational begin at 8 a.m. on Tuesday.
