
Volleyball Comes Up Short at Northern Kentucky

MACON, Ga. – Mercer senior Codi Schepp earned her second start of the season on Friday night and responded with nine kills in the volleyball team's 3-0 (25-16, 25-21, 25-16) loss to Northern Kentucky at Regents Hall.
The Bears slipped to 9-16 (5-10 A-Sun) with the loss while the Norse improved to 22-7 (9-6 A-Sun).
Schepp's career-high nine kills came on 24 swings with only two errors for a team-best .292 hitting percentage. Sophomore Caroline Carlton tallied eight kills while senior Jennifer Katona notched six of her own.
Senior Monica Sanchez dished out 27 assists while piling up five total blocks and four digs. As a team, the Bears out-blocked their opponent 8-5.
Mercer led just once during the opening two sets as the Norse cruised to the 2-0 match lead. In the third set, the Bears led 7-5 before the Norse fought back to tie it at 10-10. From there, the hosts would rip off a 9-2 run to take control.
Junior Emily Rochefort registered eight digs to move into a tie for fifth place on Mercer's all-time single-season dig leader list.
The Bears return to action at Lipscomb on Saturday. Match time is scheduled for 2 p.m.
