JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – The Mercer men's golf team completed the first round of action at the John Hayt Invitational in 14th place with team score of 309 Sunday. Sophomore James Beale
fired Mercer's low round with a 2-over 74.
Central Florida leads the 15-team field with a day-one total of 294 while Tennessee trails the Knights by one stroke. Coastal Carolina is slotted third at 296 while North Texas and Louisiana State are tied for fourth.
Beale carded 10 pars and two birdies en route to his 74 and entered the clubhouse tied for 16th individually. Sophomore Hans Reimers and freshman Trey Rule each used 77 strokes and are tied for 40th overall. Senior Josh Cone and junior John Gregory Joseph both shot 81 on Monday and are tied for 72nd.
Junior Thomas Holmes fired a 79 while competing as an individual. He was one of 10 players to shoot 79 on Sunday and is tied for 57th overall.
The second round of the John Hayt Intercollegiate is scheduled to begin at 8 a.m. Monday.
