Women's Golf Retains Lead at Eat a Peach Collegiate

JEKYLL ISLAND, Ga. – The Mercer women's golf team posted a team score of 296 on Sunday, retaining its lead on the field at the Eat a Peach Collegiate at Pine Lakes Golf Course. For the second-straight day, Mercer junior Mary Alice Murphy entered the clubhouse with a hold of the overall individual lead.
Mercer's 296 on Sunday followed Saturday's 295 and has the team one stroke clear of Charleston Southern on the leaderboard. North Florida (604), Stetson (615) and Seminole State (620) round out the five-team field.
Both Murphy and her classmate Lacey Fears shot 73 on Sunday to maintain positioning as the tournament's top-two players. Murphy's 73 paired with her Saturday 71, while Fears' 73 followed her opening round 72.
Sophomore Sarah Louie Brown and senior Aurelie Wiriath both used 75 strokes in the second round, marking the second-straight day the players have had mirroring scores. Both Brown and Wiriath will begin Monday's final round tied for 11th place overall.
Senior Kaitlin Marrin fired a 78 on Sunday and is in ninth place overall with a tournament total of 151. Mercer freshman Jacqueline Shelly shot 79, improving on her first round total by six shots. She currently holds 27th place. Meredith Owen tallied a 87 and slotted 28th.
The final round of the Eat a Peach Collegiate is set to tee off on Monday at 8:30 a.m.
