
Volleyball Drops Two on Final Day of the GSU Invitational

ATLANTA, Ga. – Mercer senior Jamie Duffy earned a spot on the Georgia State Invitational All-Tournament team Saturday, knocking down 12 kills and recording 16 digs in a pair of losses. Mercer fell by a 3-1 (18-25, 25-23, 25-15, 25-21) to Georgia State before being defeated 3-0 (25-16, 25-22, 33-31) at the GSU Sports Arena.
Saturday's matches dropped Mercer's overall record to 2-5 on the season, while Georgia State finished the day with a 2-8 record and Samford pulled even at 5-5.
In three matches in the event, Duffy collected 23 kills, 38 digs, four service aces, three block assists, and a pair of assists.
Against Georgia State, Mercer freshman Molly Locke led the way with an impressive 17-kill, 17-dig double-double effort. Junior Monica Sanchez also contributed a double-double against the Panthers on the strength of 40 assists and 11 digs.
Sophomore Caroline Carlton and senior Charlayna Braxton pounded out 14 and 11 kills, respectively.
Against Samford, Duffy led the way for Mercer with 10 kills and only two errors. The Bears split time at the setter position, with Carly Iannarino and Sanchez combining for 31 kills.
Mercer gets back on the court at the Winthrop Classic on September 14, meeting host Wintrhop at 7 p.m.
