
Volleyball Defeated at Northern Kentucky, 3-1

HIGHLAND HEIGHTS, Ky. – Junior Caroline Carlton registered a team-high 12 kills to lead the Mercer volleyball team in a 3-1 (25-16, 25-17, 22-25, 25-13) loss to Northern Kentucky on Saturday afternoon at Regents Hall.
Mercer fell to 1-17 (0-8 A-Sun) while Northern Kentucky won its second-straight match and moved to 8-12 (3-5 A-Sun).
Carlton's 12 kills were earned on 27 attempts with just five errors for a .259 hitting percentage. Sophomore Molly Locke had the team's next highest kill total, booking nine on 35 swings with four errors.
Mercer fell behind 5-1 in the first set and never led in the frame, and later the Norse would score five-straight times to mount a commanding 14-7 lead in the second set.
In the third set, the teams were knotted at 22 before an NKU attack error and kills for Locke and freshman Jordan Gollon secured Mercer's set win. In the fourth stanza, the Norse built an early 8-1 lead and never looked back en route to the win.
Senior setter Carly Iannarino passed out 38 assists and came up just shy of a double-double with eight digs. Senior Emily Rochefort racked up a team-high 13 digs while Locke added 12 of her own.
The Bears return to A-Sun play at USC Upstate on October 15. Match time is scheduled for 6 p.m.
