MIAMI LAKES, Fla. – Mercer junior Lacey Fears fired a 75 in the second round of the Sir Pizza Terrapin Challenge to lead the Bears to a 10th place standing after day one at the Senator Course of the Don Shula Golf Club.
Mercer's combined team total of 615 came by virtue of scores of 307 and 308 to slot the Bears just three strokes behind Xavier. When Tuesday's final round starts, the Bears will begin 15 strokes behind tournament leading NC State.
Florida International is one stroke behind NC State while Kansas (597), Miami (600), and Maryland (601) round out the top five.
Fears' 75 followed a 78 in Monday's first round to slot her in a tie for 32nd place individually. Sophomore Sarah Louie Brown, junior Mary Alice Murphy and senior Aurelie Wiriath are all tied for 43rd place individually. Brown shot 75 and 80, Murphy shot 76 and 79 and Wiriath shot 80 and 75.
Senior Kaitlin Marrin rounded out Mercer's competitors with a score of 157 on Monday. She collected scores of 78 and 79 to finish tied for 50th.
The final round of the Sir Pizza Terrapin Challenge begins on Tuesday morning at 8 a.m.
