PONTE VERDA BEACH, Fla. – Tuesday's final round of the John Hayt Collegiate Invitational was cancelled due to excessive water on the ground at the Sawgrass Country Club, solidifying Monday's 36-hole results as final. Mercer's men's golf team finished 13th place at the event with a two-day total of 599.
North Florida captured the team championship with a tournament score of 559 while Duke placed second at 571 and UCF took third at 585. Mercer's final total outpaced both Mississippi (610) and Furman (613) on the final leaderboard.
Mercer sophomore Trey Rule tied for 9th place at the event, outpacing 60 other competitors with a two-round total of 143. His scores of 71 and 72 on Sunday and Monday lifted him to his first career top-10 finish and second career top-20 individual placement.
Junior Hans Reimers tied for 50th with a 36-hole total of 150 while senior John Gregory Joseph tied for 53rd at 153. Junior James Beale closed at 155 in a tie for 67th place while senior Thomas Holmes tied for 73rd at 157.
Mercer will make a quick turnaround and head to Dade City, Florida for competition in the USF Invitational on March 4. The two-day event will be contested at the Lake Jovita Country Club.
