
Bears Seventh Following Suspension of Play at Linger Longer

EATONTON, Ga. – After a rain delay halted a portion of Saturday morning's play at Linger Longer Invitational, the Mercer men's golf team found itself in seventh place on the team leaderboard when darkness closed the opening day of competition. Mercer will begin Sunday's competition at the Great Waters Golf Course three shots behind Oklahoma for sixth place.
As a team, Mercer shot 298 in the first round of play and saw the team members complete between nine and 15 holes of the second round before play was suspended. The Bears currently lead seven other schools and are 23 strokes off the pace of tournament leader, Alabama.
Senior John Gregory Joseph fired a 70 in the first round and is currently tied for 13th place. Sophomore Trey Rule used 73 strokes in the opening round, but is one-under in the second round and tied for 18th place.
Juniors Hans Reimers and James Beale are each even in the second round and tied for 41st and 45th place, respectively. Reimers shot 77 while Beale carded a 78 in the first round. Freshman Jeffrey Heinicka is tied for 57th place after posting a 78 in the opening round.
Senior Thomas Holmes shot 73 in the first round and is currently tied for 63rd place.
The second round will resume at 8:30 a.m. on Sunday morning, with the final round to follow.
