Reimers Leads Mercer to Sixth Place Finish at USF Invitational

DADE CITY, Fla. – Mercer junior Hans Reimers fired a 68 (-4) in Tuesday's final round of the USF Invitational to help the men's golf team place sixth at the event. Individually, Reimers' three day total of 211 tied him for second place.
Reimers' efforts were part of Mercer's team score of 296 on Tuesday. The total came in conjunction with scores of 289 and 298 in the first two rounds to place the team one stroke ahead of Kentucky and two strokes behind Virginia.
NC State captured the team title with a tournament score of 860 while South Carolina (861), Florida State (863) and South Florida (873) rounded out the top four.
Reimers shot 73 and 70 in the opening two rounds to help him outpace 85 other competitors. His tie for second place equaled his career-best finish and marked the third top-five finish of his collegiate career. He also tied for second place finishes in the 2011 Atlantic Sun Championship and in the 2011 Frito Lay AT&T Intercollegiate.
Senior John Gregory Joseph posted a 76 on Tuesday and wrapped up the tournament with a tie for 22nd place. He shot 69 and 75 in the opening two rounds for a tournament total of 220. Sophomore Trey Rule came in five strokes behind Joseph and tied for 34th place. His Tuesday 75 came on the heels of scores of 73 and 77.
Freshman Jeffrey Heinicka followed two 76's with a 77 on Tuesday and tied for 52nd place. Junior James Beale shot 78 on Tuesday and was not placed after withdrawing from Monday's second round.
Mercer returns to action at the Seminole Intercollegiate on March 15. The three-day event is hosted by Florida State at the Southwood Golf Course in Tallahassee, Florida.
