
Volleyball Upended by Stetson, 3-1

DELAND, Fla. - The Mercer volleyball team fell to Stetson 3-1 (25-22, 18-25, 25-12, 25-20) on Friday night in Atlantic Sun action at the Edmunds Center. The Bears dropped to 0-3 in A-Sun play with the loss, while Stetson remained unbeaten at 3-0.
Mercer (1-12) got a match-high 16 kills from sophomore Molly Locke, but Stetson had four players reach double-figure kill totals in the win. Locke's 16 kills came on 51 swings and paired with seven digs.
After being edged by three points in the first set, the Bears recorded a red-hot .375 hitting percentage in the second set to even the match. Locke tallied five of her 16 kills in the frame on just eight attempts, while four other Mercer players recorded at least a kill.
Stetson went up 5-1 in the third set and never trailed en route to the 25-12 victory. In the final frame, the teams were locked at 20 before five-straight points for the hosts sealed the match.
Mercer senior Emily Rochefort booked 16 digs in the losing effort, while junior setter Carly Iannarino racked up 34 assists.
The Bears continue the weekend's road trip at A-Sun foe Florida Gulf Coast on Saturday. Match time at Alico Arena is scheduled for 3 p.m.
