
Volleyball Swept by Florida Gulf Coast

FORT MYERS, Fla. – Junior Caroline Carlton pounded down a team-high 15 kills with just four errors in the Mercer volleyball team's 3-0 (28-26, 25-13, 25-17) loss to Florida Gulf Coast at Alico Arena on Saturday evening.
Mercer's 12th-straight loss dropped the team to 1-13 (0-4 A-Sun) while Florida Gulf Coast won its third-straight and moved to 4-10 (3-1 A-Sun).
Carlton's 15 kills came on 31 assists and combined with four service aces and four digs. Her .355 hitting percentage was only outmatched by senior teammate Zoe Becton, who had six kills on 14 attempts for a .357 attacking efficiency.
In the first set, Mercer led 24-22 before the Eagles stormed back to claim the victory. IN the second set, the Eagles scored four consecutive times to break away from a 7-7 tie. After that surge, the Eagles never trailed for the remainder of the match.
Senior Emily Rochefort and sophomore Molly Locke combined for 23 digs in the loss. Senior Carly Iannarino passed out 30 assists while recording four digs, a kill and a service ace.
Mercer returns to action hosting North Florida on October 4. Match time is scheduled for 7 p.m.
