UNC Wilmington Blanks Women's Tennis in Season-Opener

WILMINGTON, N.C. – The Mercer women's tennis team opened the 2014 season Sunday afternoon and dropped a 7-0 decision to UNC Wilmington at the UNCW Tennis Courts in non-conference action.
Mercer (0-1) picked up a victory at No. 1 doubles, as Danielle Jones and Isabel Dennis combined for a 6-4 victory at the top spot, but the Seahawks earned the final two matched to earn the doubles point to take a 1-0 lead.
The Seahawks clinched the match with straight set victories at No. 2, No. 3 and No. 5 singles to take a 4-0 lead, and held on in the final three matches to sweep the Bears 7-0. Jones played into a three-set marathon at No. 1 singles, but fell 2-6, 6-1, 10-4 to Olga Blank.
The Bears return to action Wednesday afternoon, traveling to Georgia State to take on the Panthers. First serve is set for 2 p.m. in Atlanta.
