Women's Tennis Cruises Past Alabama State, 7-0

MACON, Ga. – The Mercer women's tennis team picked up its first victory of the season Friday afternoon, blanking Alabama State 7-0 at the LeRoy Peddy Tennis Center in non-conference action.
The Bears improve to 1-1 on the year with the win, while the Hornets remain winless on the young season, falling to 0-3.
"It was great to see the girls come out ready to play," said assistant coach Hana Tomljanovic. "I was pleased with their composure and professionalism throughout the day and I think we are heading in the right direction."
Mercer dominated in doubles action, winning 6-2 in all three matches to earn the first point of the day. Danielle Jones and Lucie Payrat led the way at the No. 1 spot, while Roxy Bartz and Haley Powell followed a No. 2 doubles and Natalie Franklin and Liza Klyachkin rounded out doubles play.
The Bears proved equally impressive in singles action, winning all six matches in straight sets. Jones and Klyachkin each picked up 6-0, 6-0 victories, while Payrat and Franklin emerged with wins after being forced to a tiebreaker. Powell and Bartz rounded the straight-set victories to send Mercer to a 7-0 victory.
The Bears return to action Monday, Feb. 3, making up a match from earlier this season and traveling to Georgia State. First serve against the Panthers is set for 1 p.m.
