Women's Golf Seventh in Daytona Beach

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. – Mercer sophomore Katy Harris carded a 2-over 74 to lead the women's golf team to a seventh place finish after Friday's opening round of the Xavier LPGA Invitational.
Mercer's team total of 315 positions the Bears just two strokes behind South Alabama and two strokes ahead of Xavier, Florida Gulf Coast and Boston College. Morehead State leads the field with an 18-hole total of 295.
Harris' opening round leaves her in a three-way tie for eighth place individually. Friday's pace was set by Daytona State College's Tiffany Chan, who leads the field at 5-under 67.
Senior Sarah Louie Brown is positioned in a tie for 24th with an opening round 78. Senior Meredith Owen used 81 strokes and is tied for 45th. Sophomore Marin Hanna is tied for 50th at 82 while freshman Hannah Mae Deems shot 86 and is 65th overall.
Saturday's second round is slated for an 8:30 a.m. start.
