
Deems Tied for Lead at SoCon Championship

POOLER, Ga. – Mercer freshman Hannah Mae Deems fired a 2-under 70 to finish Sunday's opening round of the Southern Conference Women's Golf Championship in a tie for first place. As a team, the Bears shot 305 and are seventh in the team standings.
Mercer's 305 is just two strokes behind ETSU for sixth place. Furman leads the field at 289 while Chattanooga (294), Western Carolina (298), Samford (299) and Wofford (302) round out the top five.
Deems carded five birdies, including two in the final four holes to complete the day in a tie with Furman's Alice Chen for the individual lead. Freshman Jaelyn Tindal used 74 strokes on Sunday and is tied for 11th place.
Sophomore Marin Hanna is tied for 34th place with an opening round 80. Senior Sarah Louie Brown was one shot behind Hanna and is in 37th place, while junior Meredith Owen is 41st with a day one 83.
Monday's second round is slated for an 8 a.m. start.
