Women's Golf Takes Eighth at LPGA Xavier Invitational

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. – The Mercer women's golf team posted a cumulative total of 317 on Sunday to take an eighth place finish at the LPGA Xavier Invitational. Mercer's showing was highlighted by sophomore Katy Harris' tie for 14th place individually.
Mercer's three-day total of 952 left the Bears 14 strokes behind South Alabama for seventh place and 13 strokes ahead of both Florida Gulf Coast and Bethune-Cookman. Morehead State captured the team title with an 887, while Daytona State College (895), Campbell (901), North Florida (916) and Boston College (924) rounded out the top five.
Harris registered Mercer's low score in all three rounds of the event, concluding her showing with a 78 on Sunday. The sophomore's 56-hole total of 229 was just four strokes outside a top-10 finish and outpaced 56 other competitors.
Senior Meredith Owen signed for a 79 on Sunday and took 44th place overall at 241. Sophomore Marin Hanna and freshman Hannah Mae Deems each used 80 strokes in the final round. Hanna finished tied for 47th at 243 while Deems took a tie for 57th. Senior Sarah Louie Brown shot 91 Sunday and finished tied for 59th at 250.
The Bears return to action on Oct. 20 at the Waverly Bulldog Invitational, hosted by Mississippi State.
