
Volleyball Downs Wofford, 3-2

SPARTANBURG, S.C. – Sophomore Hannan Noon, senior Cara Tripp and junior Molly Locke all registered double-double performances while leading the Mercer volleyball team to a 3-2 (26-24, 18-25, 25-19, 23-25, 15-8) victory at Wofford on Wednesday evening.
Mercer split its regular season series with the Terriers and improved to 6-15 (2-6 SoCon) while Wofford lost its third straight and fell to 10-15 (2-6 SoCon).
Noon's double-double effort came in conjunction with four kills, five block assists and two service aces. Tripp and freshman Emily Krogman both tallied double-digit kill totals as well, recording 10 and 11, respectively.
Tripp hit a team-high .500, as her 10 kills came with zero errors on 20 attempts. The Flemington, New Jersey native also booked 10 block assists in the victory while helping limit Wofford to a .196 hitting percentage.
Locke's team-leading 12th double-double of the year featured 14 kills and 10 digs.
After splitting the first two sets, Mercer broke away from a 15-15 tie with a 5-1 run to take control of the third set. The Terriers staved off elimination in the fourth set, using a late 5-3 surge to take a 25-23 victory.
In the deciding fifth frame, the teams were tied at 8-8 when the Bears rattled off five-straight points to gain separation. In the end, three consecutive attacking errors by Wofford sealed the Mercer victory.
Krogman collected her 11 kills on 23 swings with just two miscues, while adding five block assists at the net.
Sophomore Tori Penrod notched 24 digs on the back line to go along with eight assists.
Mercer returns to SoCon play hosting Furman on Friday evening. Match time at Hawkins Arena is slated for 6 p.m.
